Soccer Hosts Senior Night Against Weber State Friday

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State soccer team takes the pitch at Davis Field for the final match of 2018 against Weber State at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. It will be senior night with four seniors being honored during the pre-game ceremonies.

Free admission will be given to any fan bringing five or more non-perishable food items in honor of World Food Bank Week. The team will also remain on the field for autographs following the match.

Last Time Out

Idaho State played one of its best games of 2018 in Moscow, Idaho Friday night. The Bengals held the Vandals, who sit third in the league standings, scoreless in regulation to force overtime before surrendering a goal in a 1-0 loss. Idaho State also dropped a match against Eastern Washington on Sunday.

Delaney Johnston scored ISU's only goal of the weekend during the first half against Eastern Washington. Makena Bambei was able to feed her the ball near the left side of the 18-yard box before she launched a shot into the right side of the goal.

Brooke Kortekaas and Bambei led the team with six shots apiece. Kortekaas had the most shots on goal with three.

Idaho State

The Bengals enter the match with one conference win which came against Southern Utah at home.

Johnston has emerged as one of the most dangerous scorers in the conference. She leads the team with four goals (7th BSC) and eight points (10th BSC). The freshman reached 20 shots and 12 shots on goal during the weekend and holds a .600 shot on goal percentage.

Bambei has two goals on the season with the team lead in shots at 43. She also has the most shots on goal with 16. Bambei currently ranks second in the conference in shots per game with 3.07.

Kortekaas is second on the team in both shots (31) and shots on goal (15). She ranks eighth in the conference in shots per game with 2.07.  

Katie Hogarth played the complete game against Eastern Washington after subbing in late in the second half against Idaho. She has 22 saves on the season.

ISU generates 0.8 goals and 14.6 shots per game while allowing 3.47 goals and 20.6 shots per game.

Scouting Weber State

Weber State sits atop the conference standings with a 6-1-1 Big Sky record. They carry an 8-4-4 overall record after dropping their first conference match of the season to Idaho on Sunday. The Wildcats defeated Eastern Washington 1-0 last Friday.

Morgan Quarnberg has been a force in the offensive half with five goals and two assists. She is tied for the team lead in points with Olivia Barton, who has three goals and six assists. Taylor Scadlock also has three goals on the season for the Wildcats.

Three others have scored twice for WSU with seven players accounting for the team's 18 goals. Nikki Pittman has logged 1,490 minutes in goal with 71 saves and 14 goals allowed. The keeper has an .835 save percentage and six shutouts.

The Wildcats produce 1.12 goals and 9.3 shots per game and cede 0.88 goals and 12.6 shots per game to opponents.

Weber State alum Tim Crompton is in his 15th season at the helm of WSU soccer. The head coach has a 110-140-34 overall record.

Idaho State is 8-11-4 against Weber State with a 4-6-3 record at Davis Field. The Bengals have not lost a game to WSU since 2015.

These two teams also met on senior night during the 2017 season at Davis Field. The Wildcats took an early lead but were unable to secure another goal during regulation. In the 87th minute, Weber State was whistled for a foul that gave Idaho State a penalty kick.

Senior Jennifer McCaw netted the equalizer to send the game to overtime. Neither team was able to find the net as the game ended in a 1-1 double-overtime draw.

Idaho State Seniors

This will be the final game for Kenya Sherman, Meaghan Bare, Tristen Spooner and Brittany Garrett.

Sherman has played 49 games in the backline for Idaho State with 1,337 minutes of play. She has eight shots with three shots on goal in her career. Sherman was also named to the Big Sky All-Academic team in 2017.

Since joining the Bengals in 2015, Bare has spent 3,357 minutes on the field. She has five goals, three assists, 13 points, 77 shots and 27 shots on goal.

This season, Bare helped lift the Bengals to a 5-4 overtime victory against Utah State by opening the scoring in the fourth minute. She has also excelled in the classroom with Big Sky All-Academic nods the past three seasons.

Garrett played just three games with 39 minutes of action her freshman year. She earned more playing time the next two years and accepted a much larger role in the ISU defense this season.

She has doubled her career minutes with 1,099 in 2018 and 2,143 in her career. In her four seasons, Garrett has played 45 games with one shot on goal on eight attempts. Additionally, she earned positions on the Big Sky All-Academic team in 2016 and 2017.

Spooner has logged a tremendous amount of time in an Idaho State jersey since first donning it as a freshman in 2015. She played her 70th game against Eastern Washington last week and has 4,807 minutes of experience.

Spooner has one career goal which came against Boise State in 2016. She has five career assists with one coming on the game-winning, overtime goal against Utah State this season. She has tallied 41 shots with 18 on goal for a .439 shot on goal percentage.
