ISU Falls To UC Santa Barbara

BOX SCORE

POCATELLO, Idaho-
A second half run propelled the UC Santa Barbara men's basketball team past Idaho State 84-65 on Saturday afternoon at the UCSB Events Center in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Bengals are 4-5 and UCSB improved to 9-3.

Chier Maker led the Bengals with 12 points. He was 4-6 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line in 30 minutes of play.

Brandon Boyd had 11 points on nine attempts and Balint Mocsan had 11 points shooting 3-4 from behind the three-point arc.

"We couldn't get stops," said Head Coach Bill Evans. "We were okay offensively. We shot almost 50 percent from the floor, we just couldn't stop them. Sometimes things get rolling and its hard to stop them. We just didn't play defensively."

Idaho State shot 48.9 percent from the field (22-45) but the Gauchos shot 58.6 percent (34-58). The Bengals were 8-19 from the three-point line and 13-17 from the free throw line.

UCSB was 6-13 from the three-point line and 10-16 from the free throw line. The Bengals were outrebounded 32-20.

With 14:09 minutes left the Bengals tied the game at 51 points thanks to a trio of free throws made by Chier Maker. The Gauchos then went on a 23-8 run over the next ten minutes to lead 76-61.

UCSB would extend its lead to 19 points, the largest of the match and ISU was not able to close the gap as the game ended.

Idaho State heads next to Moscow, Idaho Dec. 29, for their first Battle of the Domes match at 8pm mountain time.
