Bengals Open Big Sky Conference Play at Idaho and Eastern Washington

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team plays its final games of the 2018 calendar year this week. The Bengals open Big Sky Conference play Saturday, December 29 at Idaho and Monday, Dec. 31 at Eastern Washington. Tip off at Idaho is at 8 p.m. and the Eastern Washington game begins at 2 p.m. Jerry Miller will call both games on 102.5 KMGI. Idaho State has dropped three straight in Moscow. The last Bengal win was a 71-69 in overtime during the 2007-08 season.

Scouting Idaho
Idaho enters Big Sky conference play with a 3-8 record. The Vandals average 72.8 points a game and shoot .458 percent from the field. Idaho shoots .339 percent from the three-point line and .678 percent from the free throw line. Idaho averages 37.1 rebounds, 12.8 assists, 13.4 turnovers, 4.9 steals and two blocks a game. The Vandal defense gives up 72.5 points and opponents are shooting .421 percent and averaging 35.9 rebounds. Idaho opponents average 15 assists, 10  turnovers, 6.2 steals and 2.9 blocks a game while shooting .305 percent from the three-point line and .689 percent from the free throw line.

Scouting Eastern Washington
Eastern Washington is 2-9 with seven games coming away from Roos Court. The Eagles opened Big Sky Conference play on Saturday vs. Weber State.  Eastern Washington scores 65.5 points a game and shoots .381 percent from the field. Eastern Washington shoots .305 percent from the three-point line and .658 percent from the free throw line. The Eagles average 35 rebounds, 12.9 assists, 12.3 turnovers, 5.3 steals and 1.8 blocks a game. Eastern Washington's defense gives up 78.5 points a game and allows opponents to shoot .465 percent from the field. Opponents are shooting .385 percent from the three-point line and .664 percent from the free throw line. Eastern Washington is allowing 40.4 rebounds by its opponents .

Recapping UCSB
- Idaho State led 38-37 at halftime.
- Chier Maker led the Bengals with 12 points.
- Idaho State shot 48.9 percent from the field (22-45) but the Gauchos shot 58.6 percent (34-58).
- The Bengals were 8-19 from the three-point line and 13-17 from the free throw line.
- With 14:09 minutes left the Bengals tied the game at 51 points thanks to a trio of free throws made by Chier Maker.
- The Gauchos then went on a 23-8 run over the next ten minutes to lead 76-61.
- UCSB would extend its lead to 19 points, the largest of the match and ISU was not able to close the gap as the game ended.
- Alonzo Walker was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. It was a season-best mark.
- Brandon Boyd tied his career-high in assists with seven.
