Game 7: Idaho State at Santa Clara

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team begins a five-game road trip over the course of  the month of December. The Bengals play at Santa Clara on Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. Jerry Miller will call the action live on 102.5 KMGI. To follow on line with live stats, audio and video log on isubengals.com.

Following Friday nights game, Idaho State plays at Utah Valley on Dec. 19 and at UCSB on Dec. 22. The Bengals then open conference play Dec. 29 at Idaho and Dec. 31 at Eastern Washington before returning home to host SUU January 3 in Holt Arena.

Scouting Santa Clara
Santa Clara is 3-5 and averages 68.3 points a game. Santa Clara shoots 55.6 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from the three-point line and 66.9 percent from the foul line. The Broncos average 34.5 rebounds, 13.4 assists, 15.3 turnoverse, 4.1 steals, and 3.8 blocks a game. The Santa Clara defense allows 73.6 points a game and opponents shoot 45.3 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from the three-point line.

Tahj Eaddy leads Santa Clara in scoring at 15.1 points a game. Josip Vrankie is scoring 13.1 points a game and averaging 5.6 rebounds a game.

Recapping Montana Western
-Brandon Boyd had 15 points to lead the Bengal scoring.
- Gary Chivichyan started his first game of the season and scored 10 points.
- Chier Maker had a game-high nine rebounds and Kelvin Jones had seven.
- Idaho State out rebounded Montana Western 43-34.
-After shooting 35.1 percent in the first half, the Bengals shot 55.6 percent in the final 20 minutes and held Montana Western to 31 percent shooting in the second half.
- Idaho State had a season-high eight blocks, led by three from Kelvin Jones.
- Idaho State trailed 33-31 at halftime and 48-41 with 14:16 left in the game. The Bengals then went on a 12-1 run to take a 53-49 lead after a free throw by Sam Dowd a 3-pointer by Maker.

Boyd Leads the Way
In Brandon Boyd's career at Idaho State he has led the Bengals in scoring 22 times, assists 15 times and steals 20 times.

Hot Shooting from the Field
Idaho State shot 47.5 percent from the field last year and through six games is shooting 46.7 percent this season. Last season was was the best field goal percentage by a Bengal team since the 1996-97 team shot .475 percent and the 2003-04 team shot .463 percent. The school record for best field goal percentage in a season is .512 percent by the 1980-81 team.
