POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State beat Idaho 86-83 thanks to a 3-pointer by
Brandon Boyd with two seconds left in the game. Boyd had a career-high 32 points on 11-16 shooting. He was 6-8 from the three-point line, 4-4 from the foul line. He had five assists and played the entire 40 minutes.
The Bengals led for nearly the entire game and shot 51.8 percent from the field. ISU was 16-27 from the three-point line and made 12-16 from the foul line. The Bengals had 15 assists to 14 turnovers and tied the Vandals on the boards with 30.
Balint Mocsan had 18 points and made six 3-pointers on nine attempts.
Jared Stutzman had 17 points and was 6-9 from the field.
Geno Luzcando had 10 points and eight rebounds while
Novak Topalovic scored nine points and had 11 rebounds.
Idaho shot 49.3 percent from the field and was led in scoring by Victor Sanders and Nate Sherwood's 19 points.
Boyd's game winning 3-pointer came after Sanders hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 83 with 13 seconds left in the game.
Idaho State led 45-38 at halftime and maintained the lead until Sanders hit the late 3-pointer.
The Bengals built an 11-point lead at 59-48 with 14:45 left in the game after Mocsan hit three straight 3-pointers and Stutzman hit one.
Later in the half the ISU lead was cut to 69-67 with 7:17 left in the game but Idaho State countered with a 12-4 run to extend its lead back to 10 at 81-71 with 3:08 remaining.
Until Boyd hit his last second 3-pointer, the only points the Bengals could muster was two free throws by Topalovic during the Idaho run.
ISU led 83-80 with 1:14 remaining before Sanders hit the tying 3-pointers with 13 seconds left.
The Bengals were 9-15 from the three-point line in the second half after going 7-12 in the first half.
Idaho State plays its final home game on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. vs. Eastern Washington. It is the final home game for Luzcando,
Erik Nakken,
Hayes Garrity and
Kyle Ingram. They will be honored prior to the start of the game.
