POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team dropped an 85-82 contest to Northern Colorado on Thursday in Holt Arena.
"Northern Colorado has a good basketball team and they can really score the ball," Idaho State coach
Bill Evans said. "They are better defensively then we are. We are still struggling keeping guys in front."
The Bengals led 69-61 with 7:16 left in the game before the Bears went on a 21-5 run to take an 82-74 lead with 1:39 left in the game. ISU cut into the Northern Colorado lead and had a chance to tie or win the game in the final seconds by a
Brandon Boyd layup with four seconds left was blocked, giving Northern Colorado the win.
Idaho State shot 52 percent from the floor while Northern Colorado shot 56.5 percent. The game combined for 58 fouls which led to Northern Colorado making 22 free throws on 37 attempts while Idaho State was 26 for 35.
ISU out rebounded Northern Colorado 28-27.
Geno Luzcando had 19 points and seven rebounds.
Brandon Boyd had 26 points in 34 minutes off the bench. He was 9-15 from the field and 7-9 from the free throw line.
The Bengals led 40-32 at halftime and shot 55.6 percent in the first half. ISU opened the second half by taking a 52-42 lead with 16:06 left in the game. ISU led 59-50 with 12:27 left in the game and 69-61 before Northern Colorado went on its run to take the lead and earn the win.
Idaho State plays host to North Dakota on Saturday, February 10, at 7 p.m. at ICCU Court in Reed Gym. Saturday is the final game in Holt Arena.
