Bengals Host SUU in Final Home Series

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball remains in contention for a berth in the Big Sky Conference softball tournament going into the final two weekends of the regular season. This weekend the Bengals host Southern Utah on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. Friday's game is a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. while Saturday's contest starts at 1 p.m.

Prior to the start of Saturday's game, ISU will honor senior Ashlyn Ames. The lone Bengal senior heads into her final home series at Miller Ranch Stadium as one of the top Bengals to wear the orange and black.

Idaho State enters this weekend's three-game series with a 5-10 Big Sky Conference mark while SUU is 3-12.

Makenzie VanSickle leads offense with a .324 average but she has missed the last 11 games due to injury. Genesis Zamora is batting .312 while Emma Bordenkecher is hitting .281 with a team-best 20 RBIs.

Ashlyn Ames has a team-high six homers and has pitched 124.2 innings this year. She boasts a 3.37 era.

Idaho State leads the series with SUU 22-16. The Bengals are 13-9 vs. the T-Birds in Pocatello. ISU is 6-4 against SUU in the last 10 meetings. Southern Utah won two of three from Idaho State the last two years. SUU won 14-7 in nine innings and 2-0 before ISU won 7-3 in 2016. In 2017, Southern Utah won 9-8 and 12-7 before the Bengals won the final game of the series 4-1.

In conference play, Zamora is hitting .375 while FitzGerald is batting .345. Four of Ames homers have come during league play. Ames also has a 2.60 era in 72.2 innings of work.

Mariah Mulcahy has pitched 32 innings in Big Sky play and has a 3-2 record.
