Broncos Top Bengals in Boise

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho State (1-6) was unable to stop Boise State (6-2) on the road as the Broncos rolled to a 3-0 win Sunday afternoon. Boise State scored six minutes into the game and limited the ISU offense to seven shots.

"They were extremely physical and just won the 50-50 battles," said Head Coach Allison Gibson.

Meaghan Bare was the only ISU player with multiple shots, collecting two in 41 minutes of play. Paige Smith, Brooke Kortekaas, Lauren Bollinger, Makena Bambei and Jenna Parkhurst all tallied one shot with Kortekaas and Parkhurst providing the only shots on goal for the Bengals.

Laule'a Akana-Phillips started the game for ISU, recording three saves and allowing two goals. Katie Hogarth started the second half and made three saves with one goal allowed. Akana-Phillips faced 15 shots and Hogarth faced 10.

Boise State's leading scorer Raimee Sherle shot eight times in the game with three on goal and netted the first goal with 5:50 on the clock. The Broncos scored for the second time with minutes left in the first, putting the Bengals down 2-0 at the half.

The final goal came from BSU's McKenna Kynett in the 78th minute of play to give the Broncos the 3-0 victory.

Idaho State trailed in shots (25-7) and shots on goal (9-2) against a stingy Boise State defense. The Broncos also had four more corner kicks in the game.

With nonconference play behind them, the Bengals turn their focus to their Big Sky opponents. Idaho State hosts Northern Arizona and Southern Utah at Davis Field next week. The Lumberjacks come to Pocatello Thursday at 4 p.m. and the Thunderbirds play ISU at 1 p.m. Sunday.

"I'm looking forward to my team putting the nonconference season behind us and moving forward into conference with all the lessons learned and ready for a fresh start," Gibson said.
