Bengals Fall to No. 8/9 Montana

MISSOULA, MT- The Idaho State football team lost 59-20 to No. 8/9 Montana on Saturday afternoon at Washington Grizzly Stadium.

Idaho State had 389 yards of total offense while Montana had 588.

Matt Struck with 16-33 for 189 yards. Ty Flanagan carried the ball 18 times for130 yards. Michael Dean had six receptions for 109 yards. Tanner caught four passes for 50 yards. Darian Green led the defense with 10 tackles and Adkin Aguirre had nine.

The Bengals had a strong first quarter and jumped out to a 17-0 lead.

Idaho State led 7-0 after a one-yard run by Flanagan with 9:36 left in the first quarter. The score was set up by Dean 71-yard reception on a drive that was 98-yards.

With 1:52 left in the first quarter Kevin Ryan kicked a 35-yard field goal to up the Bengal lead to 10-0. Then early in the second quarter on a second-and-eight from the Idaho State 29-yard line, Flanagan broke loose for a 71-yard touchdown run to extend the Idaho State lead to 17-0.

Montana then scored 24 points in the second quarter to take a 24-17 lead at halftime. Idaho State cuts its deficit to 24-20 on a 30 yard field goal with 7:39 left in the third quarter.

Montana would then score 28 straight points to take a 52-20 lead with 7:42 left in the game. The Griz added one more touchdown with 5:27 left in the game.

Idaho State returns home for a 1 p.m. Homecoming contest against North Dakota in Holt Arena on Saturday, Oct. 12.
 
Notes:
- Michael Dean's 71-yard reception in the first quarter was a career-long. His previous was 63-yards at Portland State on Nov. 3, 2018. The 71-yard pass was also a career-long for Matt Struck
- Ty Flanagan had a career-long 71-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. His previous long run was 59 at Liberty on Oct. 20, 2018.
- Darian Green earned his first start at Idaho State at linebacker.
- Anthony Parker had his first career sack. 
- Caleb Brown had a career-high seven tackles. 
- Ty Flanagan's 71 yard run and Michael Dean's 71 yard receptions ties for the 12th longest offensive play since 2011. 
- Ty Flanagan has now rushed for 2,033 yards in his career. He is one of only eight Bengals to rush for over 2,000 yards in a career.
