Softball Travels to UC Davis

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team returns to the field, Feb. 22-24 for five games at the UC Davis Aggie Invitational. The Bengals play UTEP and Saint Mary's on the first day and then UC Davis and Saint Mary's on Feb. 23. The invitational closes on Feb. 24 with a 9 a.m. contest vs. Seattle U. Bengals Against The Field
UTEP

UTEP leads the series 2-0. The two teams played twice last year in El Paso. The Bengals lost 4-2 and 9-0 in five innings.
Saint Mary's
Saint Mary's leads the series 4-3. The last time the two schools met came in 2011 when the Bengals lost 6-3 and 3-1. Idaho State won 3-1 in 2009. The other two wins came in 1982 and 1983.
UC Davis
UC Davis leads the series 4-1. The Aggies won the first four meetings before the Bengals won 7-3 in 2017.
Seattle U
Idaho State leads the series 11-9. The Bengals have won three of the last four meetings. The last two meetings took place in 2016 when the Bengals won 8-0 in six inning and lost 3-2.

Recapping Week 1 at Cal State Fullerton
The Bengals opened the season with wins over Louisville (3-0) and Buffalo (3-2, 8 innings). The Bengals had two one-run losses (Cal State Fullerton, 3-2 and Loyola Marymount (1-0), one two run loss (5-3 to Pacific) and a three-run loss to Northwestern (7-4).

Haley Harrison led the offense by hitting .412 with seven hits in 17 at bats. Cassidy FitzGerald hit .400 (4-10), Frank Tago .357 and Aubrey  Creekmore .300.  Autumn Pease led the pitching with a 2-0 record in three appearances. She tossed 18 innings, struck out 12 and had a .78 era.  

And the Winner is...
Autumn Pease became the first Bengals to earn a Big Sky Player of the Week honor as she was named Pitcher of the Week for her performance at Cal State Fullerton. In three appearances and 18 innings pitched she went 2-0 with 12 strikeouts and a .78 era.

Tough Schedule
The Idaho State softball team has a tough preseason schedule.  In the recent USA Today NFCA Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com USA Softball Poll Washington is ranked No. 5. Northwestern  and Ohio State are receiving votes in the NFCA Poll. Northwestern, Ohio State, Cal State Fullerton and Nebraska are receiving votes in the USA Softball poll. The Bengals also play eight teams who finished the 2018 season with a Top 70 RPI ranking in Washington (5), Ohio State (25), Northwestern (36), Cal State Fullerton (42), Louisville (44), Nebraska (45), Loyola Marymount (63) and Boise State (70).
