Softball Plays at Colorado State

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team heads to the state of Colorado for the Colorado State Classic Feb. 28-March 3. The Bengals open the tournament on Thursday, Feb. 28 vs. Nebraska and Colorado State. The Bengals then play Stony Brook on March 1, Santa Clara on March 2 and Colorado State on March 3. Bengals Against the Field
Nebraska
Nebraska leads the series 2-0. Idaho State lost 5-3 in 2008 and 12-4 in five innings in 2012.
Colorado State
Colorado State leads the series 5-1. The two teams have played every year since 2016.  Idaho State lost 15-6 and 8-1 in 2018. ISU's win was 11-7 in 2016.
Stony Brook
Stony Brook leads the series 1-0. The Bengals dropped a 4-2 decision in 2007.
Santa Clara
The series is even at 4-4. The Bengals have won four of the last five meetings. The last time the two teams met in 2016, ISU won 8-5 and lost 13-7. The Bengals won 12-0 in 2015 and 12-1 and 6-4 in 2013.

Recapping Week 2 at UC Davis
The Bengals went 3-2 last weekend, beating UTEP, 3-1, UC Davis 3-2 and Saint Mary's 6-3. Idaho State lost 7-3 to Saint Mary's and 6-1 to Seattle. Cassidy FitzGerald led the offense with a .444 average in nine at bats. She had four hits, four RBIs and scored one run. Emma Bordenkecher hit .294 with one homer and four RBIs. Autumn Pease and Mariah Mulcahy were once again solid in the circle. Pease was 2-0 with a 1.20 era. She pitched 11.2 innings in three appearances and allowed five hits, two runs, six walks and 13 strike outs. Opponents hit .125 off Pease. Mulcahy had a 1-1 record with a 1.71 era. She went 16.1 innings, allowed 17 hits, four runs and struck out 10.

Tough Schedule
The Idaho State softball team has a tough preseason schedule.  In the recent USA Today NFCA Coaches Poll Washington is ranked No. 5. The Huskies are 6th in the ESPN.Com USA Softball poll and receiving one first place vote.  Northwestern is ranked No. 23 in the USA Softball poll. Boise State, Ohio State and Northwestern are receiving votes in the NFCA Coaches poll while Ohio State and Cal State Fullerton are receiving votes in the USA Softball poll.

 The Bengals also play eight teams who finished the 2018 season with a Top 70 RPI ranking in Washington (5), Ohio State (25), Northwestern (36), Cal State Fullerton (42), Louisville (44), Nebraska (45), Loyola Marymount (63) and Boise State (70).
