POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team displayed its talent in a commanding win over Colorado Mesa University Friday afternoon. The Bengals won 7-0 in the home opener without dropping a set to improve to 2-2 in the spring season.
"Great win by the team," said Head Coach
Mark Rodel. "It was a real dominant performance. The guys came out and executed their game plans perfectly and played with a confidence and poise I know was drawn from their strong performance at Boise."
Francis Filipovich and
Gary Rendek set the tone for the match with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
David Felix and
Peter Trhac delivered ISU the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 court.
Singles competition finished in numerical order with another shutout win to begin play. Felix flattened his opponent with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win followed by Trhac who lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Idaho State's two freshmen also cruised through singles play.
Fynn Lohse topped CMU's Lucas Martin 6-3, 6-2 and
Lukas Ridemar followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Both Filipovich and Rendek dropped just one set each with the former winning 6-0, 6-1 and the latter winning 6-1, 6-0.
Idaho State is back in action tomorrow afternoon with a dual match against Gonzaga University in Ogden, Utah. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
"Overall a great win for us and now we need to carry the momentum and that confidence as we move forward to Gonzaga and beyond," Rodel said.
