PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Idaho State women's tennis team dominated Arizona Christian University in Phoenix this afternoon. The Bengals picked up a 7-0 win without losing a set in the match to improve to 6-6 on the season.
"The girls played smart today and worked on some things that they needed to do in their games," said Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney. "It was really nice being outside in the sunshine."
Madison Fenske and
Melissa Coburn set the tone with a 6-0 doubles win at court No. 3.
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Megan Poe secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1, and
Louise-Mare Botes and
Alexandra Arkhipov completed the sweep with an identical result at No. 2.
Fenske overwhelmed her opponent to begin singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6. Poe followed with a flawless performance on court No. 5. She won the match with the minimum of 12 games played in the 6-0, 6-0 win.
Angela Walker was the next Bengal to join the party with back-to-back 6-1 wins at No. 4, and Arkhipov was close in tow with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3. Coburn topped her foe 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Botes concluded play with a 6-3, 6-4 win on the feature court.
The Bengals are back in action tomorrow against Grand Canyon University at 10 a.m. before returning to conference play against Northern Arizona on Thursday.
