Bengals Take Down Weber State, 78-74

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team defeated Weber State 78-74 thanks to a combined 58 points from Balint Mocsan, Brandon Boyd and Kelvin Jones.

Mocsan scored 20 points on 7-16 shooting while Jones and Boyd each had 19 points. Jones was 9-16 from the field and had a game-high 10 rebounds while Boyd was 7-12 from the field and had four assists.

Jones and Chier Maker combined for 19 rebounds as Maker had nine. Jones had six offensive rebounds and two blocks while Maker had four offensive rebounds and three assists.

Idaho State out rebounded Weber State 36-24 and had 14 offensive rebounds.

The Bengals shot 47.7 percent from the field and 54.5 percent in the second half. Weber State shot 48.2 percent for the game.

Idaho State was 9-25 from the three-point line and Weber State was 13-29.

The game was close the entire 40 minutes as there were 12 lead changes and neither team led by more than nine points. The Bengals biggest lead was nine at 66-57 with 8:21 to play and Weber State's biggest lead was 45-39 with 15:35 to play in the game.

Idaho State trailed 35-33 at halftime as the first 20 minutes saw seven lead changes and four ties. The Wildcats opened the second half by taking a 42-37 lead three minutes in and it was extended to six at 45-39 two minutes later.

Idaho State took the lead for good at 56-55 following a tip in by Jones with 11:34 left in the game. A 3-pointer by Mocsan extended the lead to 66-57 with 8:21 to play and a minute later a Boyd layup put the Bengals on top 68-60.

Neither team scored for the next four minutes. ISU maintained its lead at 70-62 with 2:55 to play. The Wildcats would cut it to 76-74 with seven seconds left but Boyd hit two free throws in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Idaho State is back in action Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m.  vs. Eastern Washington. The Bengals then close out the regular season on Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m. vs. Idaho. Both games are in Holt Arena and $8 tickets are available for both games.


Notes
- Brandon Boyd moved into 12th place on Idaho State's all-time scoring list. He has 1,236 points and David Schroeder is in 11th place with 1,265 points.
- This is Idaho State's third win when trailing at halftime.
- 16 field goal attempts by Balint Mocsan is a career-high.
- Kelvin Jones made a season-high nine field goals on a season-best 16 attempts. His 10 rebounds tied his season-high.
