Bengals Rally Past First-Place Weber State in Nine Innings

POCATELLO, Idaho – Danni Ryan hit a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning at Miller Ranch Stadium to lift Idaho State past Weber State Saturday afternoon. The Bengals (15-22, 5-6 BSC) became the first team to defeat Weber State (17-18, 9-1 BSC) in conference play with the 7-4 win to close the series.

Starting pitchers Kelsea Sweeney and Addie Jensen, the game 1 winner for Weber State, both allowed just one hit through the first four innings. However, two long balls put Weber State out in front 4-0 in the top of the fifth. Idaho State brought its first run in after a leadoff walk by Frankie Tago in the bottom half of the inning.

Idaho State entered the bottom half of the seventh down 4-1 with just two hits before the bats came alive. Catcher Shayna Dahlen opened the inning with a double to left-center and scored on a one-out single by Billie Jean Wells.

Jayden DeMoss and MaKenzie Van Sickle followed with back-to-back singles which brought in another run. Haley Harrison tied the game with an infield double after lining a ball of the pitcher, but Weber State worked its way out of the jam to send the game to extras.

The game was scoreless through four innings. Weber State then scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning and the Bengals countered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Weber State scored its four runs on eight hits and had three errors. The Bengals scored their seven runs on nine hits and had one error.

Autumn Pease earned the win. She tossed the final four innings, allowed three hits, walked one and struck out four. Sweeney went five innings, struck out four, walked two and allowed four runs.
