Softball Falls to Northern Colorado in Game Three

GREELEY, Colo. – Idaho State fell 9-1 in five innings to conclude its series against Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon. The Bengals are now 14-20 with a 4-4 mark in conference play. The Bears improved to 9-28 with an identical 4-4 record in Big Sky play.

"We didn't show up and compete as we are used to," said Head Coach Candi Letts. "We just have to get back on the horse and take care of business."

Haley Harrison was the only Bengal with multiple hits on the day. The senior was 2-3 with a double and drove in ISU's lone run. MaKenzie Van Sickle, Emma Bordenkecher and Jayden DeMoss each tallied a hit as well. Van Sickle and DeMoss both had doubles and DeMoss scored ISU's run.

Mariah Mulcahy took the loss for ISU. Mailee Newman relieved her and allowed six hits and one earned run (four unearned) in 3.2 innings pitched.

Northern Colorado jumped to an early advantage after pushing four runs across the plate with its first five batters. Idaho State scored its run in the top of the third inning. DeMoss lined a leadoff double to left center and was brought in on Harrison's double to right field two batters later. UNC responded with another four-run inning in the bottom half of the third and secured its final run in the fourth to end the game after five innings.

Idaho State returns to Miller Ranch Stadium next week. The Bengals will play a single game against Boise State Tuesday, April 9, at 3 p.m. before hosting Weber State over the weekend. ISU and WSU will begin the series with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, before playing game 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13.
