Men's Basketball Signs Nico Aguirre Urrutia

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball program continues to build its roster for the 2019-20 season as Head Coach Ryan Looney announced the signing of Nico Aguirre Urrutia, a 6-0 guard from Castro, Chile. Aguirre Urrutia joins the Bengals after a season at College of Southern Idaho.

CSI (2017-18): Aguirre Urrutia played his freshman year at CSI where he averaged 3.2 assists per game. He shot .388 percent from the field (40-103) with 40 steals on the season. The freshman had 116 assists to only 37 turnovers.

He had a season-high 11 assists at USU Eastern on Feb. 3 and a season-high four steals vs. Casper College on Nov. 11.

Aguirre Urrutia was a red-shirt during the 2018-19 season.

Layton Christian HS: Aguirre Urrutia prepped at Layton Christian HS where he helped his team to a runner up finish in the Utah 2A State Championship. He also won a state championship in 2017.  In the summer of 2016 he played on the Chilean U18 National team, averaging 13.6 points, four rebounds, and five assists per game.

"Our staff is excited about the addition of Nico Aguirre," Looney said. "He is a winner. Nico helped his team at CSI reach the NJCAA Championship game in 2018. Bengal fans will love his competitive spirit."
