POCATELLO, Idaho- The season came to an end for the Idaho State softball team on Thursday. The Bengals played the longest game in Big Sky Tournament history but the result was a 2-1 loss to Northern Colorado in 12 innings. The game was called due to darkness on Wednesday night in the top of the ninth inning and two outs. Three of the four games on the first day went 10 innings or longer. Later in the day Idaho State lost 15-0 to Sacramento State in five innings.
The Bengals finished the season with a 20-28 record.
Against Northern Colorado, the Bears led 1-0 through five innings.
Haley Harrison then hit a homer in the sixth inning to tie the game. Northern Colorado's winning run came with two outs in the top of the 12th when Dani Young singled home Cheyenne Talmadge, who reached on a leadoff walk.
Idaho State had eight hits and committed one error while Northern Colorado was held to six hits and one error.
Autumn Pease pitched the first 8.2 innings. She struck out five while allowing one run and walking six.
Kelsea Sweeney took the loss. She pitched the final 3.1 innings, striking out four, walking two and allowing one hit and one run.
MaKenzie Van Sickle and
Aubrey Creekmore each had two hits to lead the Idaho State offense. Both teams had runners on base throughout the game as Northern Colorado left 12 runners on base and Idaho State 11.
Against the Hornets, the Bengals were held hitless and committed eight errors in the game. Sacramento State scored 15 runs on 15 hits.
Notes
The 12 inning game tied for the longest game played since the program was brought back in 2007. In 2018, Idaho State lost to Sacramento State 3-2 in 12 innings. The school record for the longest game played is 18 innings, set in 1983.
