Soccer Battles Tough in Conference Opener

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State soccer fell 3-2 to Portland State in overtime in their conference opener on Sept. 27 on Davis Field.
 
The Vikings took an early 1-0 lead before the Bengals answered back with two goals in the first half. Senior Makena Bambei scored her second goal of the season 13:45 in the match followed by senior Jazmin Lopez's second goal of the season assisted by freshman Jessica Rawstron at 23:35.
 
The Bengals finished the first half with eight total shots, three shots on goal, and three saves from senior goalkeeper Katie Hogarth.
 
In the second half, the Vikings scored at 52:35 to tie the match 2-2.
 
Hogarth recorded two intense back-to-back saves during the second half to hold off the Vikings' offense, bringing the match into overtime.
 
Portland State scored at 96:23 in overtime leading them to a 3-2 victory.
 
The Bengals totaled 17 shots with eight on goal. Senior Michaela Diderickson had three shots with two on goal, Lopez had three shots with two on goal and one goal, sophomore Karlin Wurlitzer recorded two shots with one on goal, and Bambei had four shots, three on goal, and one goal for the Bengals.
 
Rawstron recorded an assist and Hogarth finished with seven saves in the match.
