POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State volleyball defeated Utah Valley 3-1 in its home opener on Sept. 3 in Reed Gym.
The Bengals came out strong with a 25-21 first set finish. Senior
Haylie Keck recorded six kills in the first followed by junior
Aubrie Steiner and senior
Brooke Pehrson who each recorded three. Junior
Chelsea Vaughan had nine assists and senior
Kayla Ledezma tallied six digs.
The Wolverines took the second set going 25-23. The Steiner sisters led the Bengals in the second set with Raegan recording four kills, one block and Aubrie with three kills. Pehrson also recorded two kills and one block in the set.
ISU fought back and took sets three and four, 25-19 and 25-22. The third set was led by Keck with four kills and three digs and Vaughan with having eight assists. Pehrson led the Bengals in the fourth with three kills followed by Johnson and
Raegan Steiner each with two kills.
Overall, Keck led the Bengals with 13 kills and 13 digs followed by Pehrson with nine kills, two service aces, two blocks, and one assist.
Aubrie Steiner recorded nine kills, one service ace, two blocks, and three digs.
Vaughan recorded 31 assists and two service aces.
Sophomore
Mahala Bradburn recorded two aces, six assists, and 15 digs.
Ledezma recorded 12 digs.
Idaho State continues play this week in Kent, Ohio as they take on Valparaiso University (Sept. 6) at 10 a.m. (MST), Robert Morris University (Sept. 6) at 3 p.m (MST), and Kent State (Sept. 7) at 9 a.m. (MST).
