Bengals Fall in OT to Weber State

POCATELLO, Idaho-  The Idaho State men's basketball team lost 76-68 to Weber State in overtime on Thursday evening in Reed Gym in front of a season-high crowd of 1,745.

The game was tied at 57 with 26 seconds left to play in regulation. Weber State missed a 3-pointer with six seconds left in regulation and Idaho State was unable to get a shot off, forcing overtime.

The Bengals were outscored 19-11 in the extra period. 

Chier Maker had 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Tarik Cool had 11 points and Austin Smellie had 10 points. Malik Porter had a career-high 11 rebounds off the bench. Coreyoun Rushin tied his season-high with 10 points in 25 minutes of play.

Idaho State shot 40.9 percent from the field while Weber State finished the evening shooting 45.8 percent. The Bengals out rebounded Weber State 45-33. Idaho State turned the ball over 16 times to only nine for Weber State.

The game had 14 lead changes and five ties. Idaho State's biggest lead was nine points at 32-23 with 1:43 left in the first half after a basket by Smellie.

The Bengals led 32-25 at halftime. Idaho State was held to 34 percent shooting in the second half, allowing Weber State to claw back in the game.

The Wildcats took a 38-37 lead seven minutes into the second period. Weber State maintained a slim lead for most of the second half and with the Wildcats leading, 55-51, with 2:53 to play in regulation, ISU was able to claw back thanks to two free throws from Smellie, a layup by Rushin and a dunk by Porter.

It was Rushin's layup with 26 seconds left that tied the game at 57. Idaho State led briefly in overtime at 62-61 and 64-63. Weber State then outscored Idaho State 13-4 to earn the victory.

Idaho State plays at Portland State on Saturday at 8 p.m. (MST). The Bengals then return home to host Montana on Thursday, January 23 at 7 p.m.
