Mens Hoops Hosts SAGU American Indian College Thursday

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team continues its two-game home stand on Thursday at 7 p.m. with a home contest vs. SAGU American Indiaian College. Jerry Miller will call the action live online at stretch internet with the game being televised on Pluto Channel 1061. Live stats are also available. Logo onto isubengals.com for information on how to follow the game. In the last 21 years Idaho State is 16-6 in home openers. In the last 21 years Idaho State has opened the season 13 times against Non-Division 1 schools. Idaho State's last loss to a non-Division 1 program was 86-83 (Overtime) to BYU-Hawaii on Dec 18, 1991. 

Series vs. SAGU American Indian College
This will be the third meeting between the two schools. Idaho State earned a 92-71 win This is the first meeting between the two schools. 

Recapping Last Week
Idaho State lost 75-59 to the University of Utah on Tuesday, September 8 and then beat Bethesda 87-48 on Saturday, Dec. 12. Tarik Cool had 18 points on 7-12 shooting against Utah. Robert Ford III added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the game. In the win over Bethesda, the Bengals shot 48 percent from the field. Daxton Carr and Brayden Parker led Idaho State with 13 points. Robert Ford III had 12 points and Austin Smellie had 11. The Bengals out rebounded Bethesda 38-23. 

Crashing the Boards 
Idaho State has had success rebounding the basketball since Ryan Looney has been head coach. This year his team is out rebounding opponents 36.6-28. Last year the Bengals won the battle of the boards 32.9-32.1. Idaho State out rebounded teams in 15 of 30 games despite being undersized. 

First Impressions 
Robert Ford III has the made a good first impression as a Bengal. The 6-0 junior guard is second on the team in rebound at 5.6 boards a game and he has scored in double figures in four of five games. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds at Utah on Dec. 8. He also had seven boards vs. UC Davis. 

Brayden Parker leads the team in rebounding at 5.8 a game. He has had five or more rebounds in all five games. 

Returning Scoring 
While Idaho State returns only three players;  Tarik Cool, Malik Porter and Austin Smellie combined to score 997 of the 2,091 points, good for a percentage of 47.6 percent.
