POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State softball fell 2-0 to UTEP before falling 8-4 to Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon in Riverside, Calif.
ISU recorded 20 hits on the day.
Emma Bordenkecher had an impressive day, going 6-7 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Shayna Dahlen was 3-5 with a double and
Mailee Newman was 3-6 on the day.
Morgan Hess and
Isabel Cargill each added three hits while
Frankie Tago and
Amber Arreola each singled. Arreola and Hess also added an RBI.
"We just really need to focus up on every pitch and understand that the small things matter," said Head Coach
Cristal Brown. "Kelsea did a great job in the first game and we should have put more runs up for her. In the second game our defense needed to be a lot better and we should have had more runs than four on 14 hits."

The Bengals recorded six hits led by Newman going 2-2 and Bordenkecher going 2-3 at the plate. Cargill and Dahlen each tallied a hit for ISU.
Neither team was able to advance runners past second base, leaving the game tied at zero until a sixth inning Miner home run put them up 1-0. The home run was followed by a bunt single and two base hits that lead to a 2-0 victory over the Bengals.
Kelsea Sweeney earns the loss after giving up nine hits, two earned runs, and striking out three.
Santa Clara 8 Idaho State 4
Idaho State out hit Santa Clara, 14-9, while leaving six runners on and committing four errors.
Bordenkecher was a perfect 4-4 with a home run and a double, scoring two runs and recording two RBIs. Hess was 3-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Dahlen was 2-3 with a double. Arreola also recorded an RBI in the game.
A solo home run to left center from Bordenkecher put ISU up 1-0 to start the game. Santa Clara quickly took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning after taking advantage of two walks, one hit, and one ISU error.
Hess' single to start the second inning sparked a momentum that would give the Bengals another run. Dahlen came up big with a double that gave ISU runners on first and third before Arreola hit a RBI single to cut the Bronco lead, 3-2.
ISU tied the game in the third after an RBI base hit from Hess scored Bordenkecher from second base. Bordenkecher reached base from a single of her own and was advanced by a base hit from Newman.
The Broncos took back the lead in the bottom of the inning after a double brought in two runs. Santa Clara would bring in one more run off a single before ending the inning in a 6-3 lead.
A two-out RBI double from Bordenkecher in the fourth followed two base hits from Dahlen and Cargill to cut the lead 6-4. The Bengals tried to push across another run in the fifth, sending
Kaylee Butterworth all the way home from first after a double from Hess. Butterworth would get thrown out on the play.
Santa Clara strengthened their lead 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, the Broncos scored two runs off of one hit, three walks, and one ISU error.
The loss goes to Newman after giving up six earned runs, seven hits and five walks.
Emma McMurray came in to relieve Newman late in the fifth inning, giving up two hits and striking out two.
Idaho State finishes the UC Riverside Tournament tomorrow against UC Riverside at 3 p.m. (MST) before taking on San Diego in a double header on Feb. 17 starting at 1 p.m. (MST).
