Bengals fall to Sacramento State 63-59

 

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's basketball team fell to Sacramento State 63-59 on Saturday evening in Reed gym.

The Hornets shot 27-61 from the field 3-19 from behind the three point line and 6-6 from the free-throw line. The Bengals shot 24-54 from the field and 3-13 from the three point line. The Bengals finished 8-13 from the free-throw line.

Malik Porter had a career high night, totaling 31 total points on 12-22 shooting from the field and 7-11 from the free throw line.

The Hornets out-rebounded the Bengals 36-30 with three more offensive boards 13-10.

The first half ended with Sacramento State up on Idaho State 27-24.

With 16:34 left in the second half the Bengals regained the lead after Porter hit a free throw after a layup and a drawn foul.  

The Hornets would take back the lead and not relinquish it for the rest of the game.

The Bengals were able to tie the game with 3:10 left in the second half thanks to a pair of made free-throws by Porter, but the Hornets were able to take back the lead and hold it to the buzzer winning 63-59.

The Bengals are on the road next week, traveling to Bozeman, Mont., on Feb. 13, to take on Montana State, then heading to Missoula, to face the University of Montana.

-        Malik Porter's 31 points were a career high and the most scored individually by a Bengal since Tarik Cool's 41 points Nov. 7 against Air Force.
