Bengals Prepare for Two Games at Portland State

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team returns to the road for two games at Portland State on Jan. 21 and 23. Thursday's game begins at 8 p.m. (MST) and Saturday's contest tips at 1 p.m. (MST). Jerry Miller will call both games on stretch internet. The game can be accessed by logging onto isubengals.com and clicking on the audio link on the schedule. The game can be seen on Pluto TV channel 1051. 

Portland State has won the last three meetings and six of the last seven. The Bengals last win in Portland was 73-70 on Jan. 16, 2016.

Recapping Last Week
Idaho State split a two-game series with Sacramento State in Reed Gym on Jan. 17-18. The Bengals won 57-56 in overtime and lost 70-65 in game 2. Tarik Cool led the Bengals in scoring during the two games with an average of 18.5 points a game. Brayden Parker averaged 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the two games while Robert Ford III averaged 12 points and 8.5 rebounds. Idaho State averaged 61 points a game and gave up 63 points. The Bengals shot 45 percent from the field but was only 9-42 from the three-point line in the two games. 

Crashing the Boards 
Idaho State has had success rebounding the basketball since Ryan Looney has been head coach. This year his team is out rebounding opponents 36.1-28.7. ISU has out rebounded its opponents in 11 of 13 games  this season. Last year the Bengals won the battle of the boards 32.9-32.1. Idaho State out rebounded teams in 15 of 30 games despite being undersized. 

First Impressions 
Robert Ford III has the made a good first impression as a Bengal. The 6-0 junior guard is first on the team in rebound at 7.4 boards a game and he has scored in double figures in 10 of the first 13 games. He has five rebounds or more in nine of 13 games. He has four games with 10 rebounds or more.

Brayden Parker is scoring 11.3 points and bringing down 6.0 rebounds. He has six double figure scoring games and two games with 10 rebounds or more. He has five rebounds or more in 11 of 13 games. 

Bengal Bites
- Tarik Cool has scored in double figures in five straight games and in seven of the last eight. Cool is averaging 17.4 points and shooting .534 percent from the field in the last five games. 
- In the last five games opponents are scoring only 64.2 points a game. ISU is shooting .492 percent from the field and holding opponents to .412 percent shooting. 
- Malik Porter has five rebounds or more in six games. Last year he scored in double figures in 15 games. He scored in double figures in 13 of the final 15 games last year. He has scored in double figures in five games this year.
- Austin Smellie scored in double figures in 15 games last year and has 19 double figure games in his career. 
- Robert Ford III has scored in double figures in 10 games and has five rebounds or more in nine of 13 games. 
- Brayden Parker has scored in double figures in six games and has five rebounds or more in 11 games.
