POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team earned its second straight road win by beating Northern Arizona 73-69 on Thursday night in Flagstaff.
Tarik Cool led the Idaho State scoring with 20 points. He was 10-11 from the free throw line and 5-10 from the field. He also had six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Robert Ford III had 17 points and six rebounds.
Daxton Carr had 12 points and six rebounds.
The Bengals shot 46 percent from the field and made 22 free throws on 26 attempts. ISU out rebounded NAU 35-31 and only turned the ball over 13 times.
It was a game of runs as Idaho State jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first five minutes after a basket by Ford with 15:26 left in the first half. NAU then went on a 11-0 run to take a 14-9 lead four minutes later.
NAU would lead 30-27 at halftime. The Lumberjacks extended their lead to 38-33 in the early minutes of the second half and later led 45-41 with 14:24 to play in the game. Idaho State then went on a 12-0 run to lead 53-45 with 9:45 left in the game after two
Austin Smellie Free throws.
The Bengals later led 57-49 with 7:10 left in the game following two free throws by
Malik Porter.
Idaho State led the rest of the way as NAU got no closer than three points.
The two teams play again at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 in Flagstaff.
