POCATELLO, Idaho- Fall softball is over for the Idaho State softball team. During the seven game competition schedule, the Bengals made great strides that has coach
Andrew Rich excited and happy with the improvement of his team.
"We grew a lot from game one to game seven," said Rich. "We learned a ton about ourselves which is what you want to get out of the fall."
Rich thinks that the team is performing well, but also knows that there is room for improvement.
"I think we did a really good job of building the foundation of how we want our program to play the game," Rich said, "Now we have to go and make everything just a little bit more polished."
Going forward, Rich hopes that his team can improve every day to put themselves in the best position possible to win the Big Sky and compete in the conference championship.
In 2021, the Bengals had an overall record of 12-27 and failed to qualify for the conference tournament.
"Our goals are never going to change." Rich said in reference to competing for Big Sky championships.
After cancelling a pair of away games against Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University because of weather issues, the Idaho State softball team wrapped up fall ball by sweeping a doubleheader against College of Southern Idaho two weeks ago at Miller Ranch Stadium. The Bengals won game 1, 6-3 and won the second game, 13-2.
"We had a handful of really big innings that...show how explosive our team can be offensively." said Rich.
Isabella Hansen had a three-run home run in the first game that got the offense going. Also adding hits on the day were
Rheanne Lewis and
Angelica Cano.
The Bengals tallied 17 strikeouts on the day. In the first game,
Mareena Ramirez and
Emma Montoya accounted for 11 of those strikeouts through the first six innings. They also combined to allow no runs and only one hit.
