The Idaho State Softball team came away with a win and a loss in their first two away games of fall competition.

LOGAN, Utah- The Idaho State softball team walked away with a win over Colorado Northwestern 7-2, but lost to Utah State 6-4 in their first two away games of fall competition.

"We're going in the right direction," Head Coach Andrew Rich said. "We played them till the end and that's all that you can ask for."

CNCC
The first of the two games was against Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Bengals came away with a 7-2 victory.

Multiple players contributed to the win. Angelica Cano contributed on the offensive side of the ball, adding a pair of RBI's to help increase the Bengals score.

The Bengals played well on offense, but it was their defense that was spectacular. Bengal pitchers, Haley Rainey, Mailee Newman, Samantha Mader, finished with a total of 11 strikeouts. Haley Rainey led the Bengals with six strikeouts. Towards the end of the game, Mailee Newman added three strikeouts and then Samantha Mader finished it off with two of her own.

"It's always good to see the swing and misses." Rich said.

Rich credited Assistant Coach Jamie Southern for the execution of the pitchers saying that she is "doing a fantastic job."

USU
The final game of the day was played against the Aggies of Utah State University. The game was a back and forth battle between the two teams, but the Bengals fell just short, losing 6-4.

The Bengals controlled the first inning, scoring one run and holding USU scoreless on defense. The Aggies then scored two runs in the bottom of the second to go up 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, Skyler Sethman did something that doesn't happen very often. After some miscommunication and maybe some carelessness by the USU pitcher and catcher, Sethman ended up stealing home in a spectacular fashion to tie it up 2-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, USU scored two runs to go up 4-2. However, in the top of the sixth, Isabel Cargill hit a single into the outfield that scored two other runners. The score was all tied up 4-4.
USU hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to earn the victory.

Even with dropping a nail-biter, the Bengal pitchers continued to pitch well.. Emma McMurray and Emma Montoya each had one strikeout early in the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Mareena Ramirez added two strikeouts. The Bengals tallied 15 strikeouts on the day.
