Men's Hoops Hosts Montana Thursday and Saturday

POCATELLO, Idaho- After 10 days off, the Idaho State men's basketball team returns to the court to host the University of Montana on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. Both games can be seen live on Pluto TV Channel 106. Jerry Miller will call the game live on stretch internet and live stats will be available through isubengals.com. 

Idaho States last win over Montana was 67-65 in on Dec. 31, 2009 in Pocatello. Since then Montana has won 19 straight games. Only four of the 19 losses have been by single digits.

January Success 
Idaho State finished the month of January with a 5-2 mark. The .714 winning percentage is the best for the month of January since the 1994-95 team went 6-2 in the month (.750). Since 1994, this year's team is one of seven teams to win five games during the month. The defense shined during the month as it allowed only 62.7 points a game and held opponents to .402 percent shooting. 

 Recapping George Fox
Idaho State led 50-32 at halftime and cruised to the 84-59 victory. Idaho State had five players in double figures for the first time this year, led by 19 points from Austin Smellie. Malik Porter had 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Idaho State shot 52.9 percent from the field and was 21-30 from the free throw line. George Fox was held to 36.5 percent shooting. 

Crashing the Boards 
Idaho State has had success rebounding the basketball since Ryan Looney has been head coach. This year his team is out rebounding opponents 36.3-29.5. ISU has out rebounded its opponents in 16 of 19 games  this season. Last year the Bengals won the battle of the boards 32.9-32.1. Idaho State out rebounded teams in 15 of 30 games despite being undersized. 

Bengal Bites
- The Bengals rank 8th in the country in scoring defense and first in the Big Sky Conference at 60.5 points a game. 
- Idaho State ranks 22nd in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense at 39.8 percent. That is the best mark in the conference. 
- Idaho State has four road wins. Since at least 2001 Idaho State has never had more than 5 road wins for a season. There have been four teams with five road wins and now four teams with four road wins. 
- Idaho State ranks 19th in the country in rebounding margin and second in the conference at 7.6.
- Tarik Cool has scored in double figures in 11 straight games and in 13 of the last 14. 
- Malik Porter has five rebounds or more in nine games. Last year he scored in double figures in 15 games. He scored in double figures in 13 of the final 15 games last year. He has scored in double figures in eight games this year.
- Austin Smellie scored in double figures in 15 games last year and has 24 double figure games in his career. 
- Robert Ford III has scored in double figures in 11 games and has five rebounds or more in 13 of 19 games. 
- Brayden Parker has scored in double figures in nine games and has five rebounds or more in 14 games.
