Softball Set to Begin 2021 Season at Libby Matson Tournament

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State Softball starts its 2021 campaign Friday, as they head to Stockton, Calif., to play in the Libby Matson Tournament hosted by the University of the Pacific.

Bengal Bites

Emma Bordenkecher returns after a dominant 2020 season that saw the Bengal Infielder hit .492 on the season including a slg% of .873 and an ob% of .535. 

Two other Bengals ended the 2020 season hitting in the 300s. Sophomores Kaylie Butterworth and Morgan Hess hit .355 and .339 respectively.

Overall, The Bengals hit .272 on the shortened 2020 season.

In their 20 games played, the Bengals hit 12 Home Runs to their opponents 10.

Junior Pitcher Mailee Newman led the team in RBIs with 13 finishing the season with a .500 slg%.

 

Scouting University of the Pacific.

The Pacific Tigers are 2-2 after competing in the 2021 Fresno State Kickoff Classic

The Tigers are led by Rian Dirmeyer, who after four games, is hitting .556.

The Tiger Pitchers are averaging a 5.63 ERA and a 1.88 WHIP.

The Bengals have played the University of the Pacific Tigers twice with an 0-2 record. The last matchup was a 5-3 loss on Feb. 9, 2019 at the Titan Classic Tournament.

 

Scouting University of Nevada

The Nevada Wolfpack are 7-3 after competing at the UC Davis/Sac State Tournament and the Dixie State Classic.

At the Dixie State Classic, the Wolfpack picked up an 8-5 win against the No. 2 Washington Huskies.

Nevada has two wins against Big Sky softball programs this season, a 10-0 win against Sac State and a 6-5 win against Montana.

The Wolfpack is led offensively by Lauren Gutierrez who is hitting .455 with two home runs after 10 games played. Nevada has six players hitting over .300 on the season.

The Nevada Pitching staff has an ERA of 2.98 after 10 games

The Bengals have played the University of Nevada eight times with a 6-2 record against the Wolfpack. The last meeting of the two programs was on Mar. 8, 2015. The Bengals fell 9-8 in that game but won their overall series 2-1.
