Bengals Split Day One of Libby Matson

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Bengal softball team split day one of the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif. The Bengals picked up a win against the University of Nevada  7-0 and fell 3-2 to the University of the Pacific.

"[I'm] proud of the work the team put in today," said Head Coach Cristal Brown. "They showed a lot of discipline and poise. We could have used one more key hit in the second game, but overall we had a great day offensively, defensively and in the circle."

Game 1 ISU 7 – UNR 0
The Bengals defeated the University of Nevada Wolfpack 7-0 claiming their first victory of the season.

ISU put 11 runs on the board in their first outing of the season with three of the 11 being doubles.

The Bengals got on the board early after a single by Emma Bordenkecher to bring in Rheanne Lewis. ISU added another run after Isabel Cargill hit a single to left field bringing Bordenkecher in.

The Bengals grew their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the 5th before Cargill hit the Bengals first homerun of the season, a two-run bomb to give the Bengals a 6-0 lead.

The Bengals would add to their lead after a Frankie Tago double to make the score 7-0 and secure the Bengal victory.

ISU Pitcher Mareena Ramirez pitched a complete seven innings and gave up only four hits and completed the shut-out.

Game 2 ISU 2 – Pacific 3
The Idaho State Bengals dropped the second game of the Libby Matson Tournament 3-2 to the University of the Pacific.

The Bengals and the Tigers battled back and forth over the beginning of the game. ISU pitcher Emma Montoya pitched a shutout until in the bottom of the 4th Pacific's Lucchetti doubled to left center allowing two runs to score.
A third run was allowed after an interference call was made against the Bengals.

The Bengals didn't give up though. Cargill and Shea Perkins were walked after a single by Mailee Newman to load the bases. Lewis then singled to shortstop and bring in the Bengal on third and make the score 1-3.

The team would add another run when Lewis singled to left field for her 2nd RBI of the afternoon.

The Bengals comeback would fall just short and the game ended with a 3-2 Tiger victory.

Lewis led both teams with 2 hits in four at-bats.
