Volleyball Preview vs Northwest Nazarene

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State volleyball is home this week to host the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks. Game one will be Friday, Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. and game two will be Saturday, Feb. 13 at 5:00 p.m.

Scouting Northwest Nazarene

The Nighthawks are 0-3 on the season with non-conference matches.

NNU has played one Big Sky team, Eastern Washington, who defeated the Nighthawks 0-3 in Cheney.

The Nighthawks are coached by Doug English, who in his eight season, has a 113-52 overall record and an 82-34 GNAC record.

NNU is averaging 9.8 kills per set, 14 digs per set and 1.5 blocks per set on the season.

Previous Series vs Idaho

Game 1

The Idaho State volleyball team won its match against the University of Idaho Vandals in the Battle of the Domes in five sets (21-25, 25-18, 29-27, 24-26, 15-9) on Saturday night in Reed Gym.

 The Bengals went point for point in the first set. After a tough rally, the Vandals took the first set, 25-21.

 The Bengals came back to dominate the second set, holding a lead of at least seven points throughout the set. The Vandals had not lost a second set this season, but the Bengals took the win with a score of 25-18.

 In the third set, the Vandals held the lead early but the Bengals were neck and neck again in this set, playing point for point before earning the 29-27 victory.

 Set four was another battle that went back and forth. The Vandals earned a 26-24 victory. ISU hit .244 in the set.

 The Bengals came back to win in the fifth set and the match. Kaia Rhodes came out with two back to back kills, giving ISU the momentum. Mahala Bradburn had two aces in this set. Having her in the back row and kill leader Raegan Kunz in the right side position, the Bengals came out on top with a score of 15-9.

 Raegan Kunz hit a 0.391 hitting average with total of 23 kills and 46 attacks in the match. The 23 kills was a career high. She lead the team at the net, helping her team get their big win against the Vandals.

 Taylor Meeks had a total of 10 kills with 22 attacks. She dominated at the net with 3 block assists and 1 solo block.

 Mahala Bradburn had 18 digs.

Game 2

For the second straight day Idaho State and Idaho went five sets. After the Bengals pulled out the five set victory on Saturday, it was the Vandals turn to earn the five set win.


In the second Battle of the Domes contest in as many nights, the Vandals knocked off Idaho State 18-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-23, 16-14.

Idaho State hit .162 for the match while Idaho hit .181. Kennedee Tracy had 21 kills and Sadie Gardner had 14. Raegan Kunz finished with 12.

Setter Andri Dewey had 54 assists and Mahala Bradburn had 23 digs.

Idaho State led throughout the entire set one victory. In the second set, it was a back and forth affair as there were 13 ties and six lead changes before the Vandals pulled out the 27-25 victory.

The Bengals came back and tied set 3 at 22 and scored the final three points to earn the victory.

After Idaho tied the match at 2-2, the Bengals came out in set five and led 13-9. Idaho caught fire to earn the victory down the stretch.
