BOISE, Idaho- It wasn't the way the Idaho State men's basketball team wanted to end the season. The Bengals lost to Montana State 71-63 on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament at ICCU Arena.
Despite the loss, Idaho State finished the year with a 13-11 record. This is only the seventh time since 1990 that the program finished the year with a winning record.
Tarik Cool led Idaho State in scoring with 18 points.
Brayden Parker had 12 and
Austin Smellie finished with 11. The Bobcats out rebounded ISU 39-30. Smellie was the Bengals top rebounder with seven.
Idaho State shot 31 percent from the field and the Bobcats finished the afternoon shooting 41 percent.
Idaho State led early in the game as it held 13-6 and 17-10 leads. Foul trouble hit the Bengals early in the first half as
Robert Ford III had three fouls and
Daxton Carr, Cool and Smellie each had two fouls at halftime.
The Bengals trailed 37-29 at halftime. ISU made a run to get within five at two different times in the second half but that would be the closest they would get.
