Bengal Softball Drops Home Openers against SUU

POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State dropped its home opener matches against Southern Utah Friday afternoon at Miller Ranch stadium. 

ISU 0 – SUU 9

Idaho State dropped the first game of their home opening series against Southern Utah 9-0 Friday afternoon.

The Thunderbirds scored three times in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the second the Bengals were able to load the bases but unable to bring any runners in.

SUU capitalized on a six run fourth inning to pull their lead to 9. They would hold that through the fifth when the game ended.

Rheanne Lewis led the Bengals with two hits in two at bats. Shea Perkins and Isabel Cargill also had hits for ISU.

Mailee Newman pitched 3.1 innings with nine hits and one strikeout. Emma McMurray coming in as relief gave up one hit and had two strikeouts.

ISU 0 – SUU 8

In game two of the doubleheader the Bengals battled before falling to SUU 0-8.

The first inning ended 5-0 after SUU hit a grand slam at the end of the half inning.

Emma McMurray came in as relief to Mareena Ramirez and in 4.1 innings pitched, gave up five hits, three runs and also had three strikeouts.

At the plate, Rheanne Lewis once again led the Bengals with two hits on three at bats to finish the day with a .800 hitting percentage. Amber Arreola also had a hit for the Orange and Black.

Tomorrow, the Bengals and Thunderbirds square off in the final game of the series with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
