POCATELLO, Idaho. - Patrick Kristensen has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement to play tennis next season at Idaho State University, Head Coach
Alexander Free announced Tuesday. Kristensen, played his first two seasons at Middle Tennessee State University and will join the Bengals in the Fall of 2021.
Kristensen, a native of Aarhus, Denmark, competed in 25 matches for the Blue Raiders, compiling a 11-3 singles record and a 9-2 record in doubles play. In addition to his play on the court, Kristensen was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2020. Kristensen was a part of the 2021 MTSU squad that won the Conference USA Championship Tournament.
"Patrick is a great addition for our program," said Free. "I am thrilled to be on the same side of the net as Patrick moving forward. He comes highly recommended from his coach at Middle Tennessee State and has experience both as an elite junior player and on a nationally ranked team. I have full confidence that Patrick is going to leave a tremendous legacy as a Bengal and he will be a key piece in our journey towards winning a Big Sky Championship."
Prior to enrolling at Middle Tennessee, Kristensen was the top ranked junior player from Denmark, achieving a career high ITF world ranking of 187 and a Tennis Europe Ranking of 46. Throughout his junior career Kristensen won the Danish Singles National Championship four times and was selected to represent Denmark in the European Tennis Championships.
"I chose ISU because I think I will be a great fit in the tennis program and as an addition to the team. On top of that they provide a good opportunity for me to grow as a student in the field of computer science. I can't wait to represent the Bengals and be a part of the family!" Patrick said.
Kristensen joins a Bengal squad that recently earned a #2 seed in the Big Sky Championships in Phoenix, Arizona on May 1st, 2021.
