POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State Bengals fell just short in their match against Westminster College 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Pocatello.
The Griffins got on the board first with 31 minutes to play in the first half. The two teams battled for the remainder of the first half and went into halftime with the Griffins up 1-0 .In the second the Griffins were able to score again on a penalty kick awarded in the 84th minute.
The Bengals weren't discouraged though, and responded just 30 seconds later. ISU forward
Deborah Pond streaked up the sideline and placed a perfect cross for
Mia Cartwright who rocketed the ball to the back of the net.
The two teams continued to battle for the remaining five minutes but the Bengals were unable to score an equalizer and the match ended with a 2-1 Westminster final.
The Bengals ended the game with nine shots and seven shots on goal. Pond led the team with three shots total and two on goal.
Mckayla Wetsel was brilliant in goal for the Bengals facing 22 Westminster shots and recording a new career-high eight saves.
The Bengals are back in action Friday, August 27th as they travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to face South Dakota State and The University of North Texas.
