Bengals Wrap Up Non-Conference Play with Matches at Utah Valley and Utah State

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State volleyball wraps up its non-conference campaign this week with matches against Utah Valley University and Utah State.

The Bengals start the week Thursday, Sept. 16 at Utah Valley in Orem, Utah at 5:00 PM before heading to Logan on Saturday, Sept. 18 to face Utah State at 4:00 PM.

·        Danielle Devlin is leading the team in attacking with 57 kills on 130 attacks for a .354 hitting %

·        Block Stars - Kaia Rhodes recorded her 100th career block this weekend. Danielle Devlin leads the team in total blocks at 37 and averages .84 b/s

 

·        Streit is leading the team in points with 3.40 points per set and Sadie Bluth is following just behind at 2.70 points per set.

 

               ·        Aces Wild - Mahala Bradburn and Rachael Driskell are 3rd and 4tth in the conference in service aces.

This will be the 18th matchup between the Bengals and the Wolverines.

The UVU Wolverines are 4-5 after defeating Utah State 3-1 Tuesday evening for their third-straight win, one of which being against Big Sky competitor NAU.

UVU is currently averaging 12.2 kills per set and an attack percentage of .184.

The Wolverines are led in kills by Kazna Tanuvasa who has 135 on the season. Abbie Miller leads the team in assists with 208 and Bryton Bishop leads the team in Digs with 155.

This will be the 54th meeting of the Bengals and the Aggies

The Bengals lead the overall series 29-24.

In the previous 10 matchups, the Aggies lead 7-3 with the Bengals claiming the last victory, a 3-0 sweep at the USC tournament in 2015.

The Aggies are 6-4 on the season after suffering a 3-1 loss to Utah Valley University Tuesday evening. The Aggies will play Big Sky Competitor Southern Utah on Thursday before hosting the Bengals on Saturday.

USU is averaging 13.1 kills per set with an attack percentage of .236. The are holding competitors to an average attack percentage of .192.

The Aggies also average 1.6 aces per set and 2.3 blocks per set.

Tatum Stall leads the team in kills with 115 on the season. Kalena Vaivai leads the team with 212 assists and Abby Peterson leads the Aggies in digs at 101.

The Aggies have faced off against two-other Big Sky schools this season. A 3-2 loss to Weber State and a 3-2 win against Montana State.

 

Previous Match Recap – Davidson

The Bengals of Idaho State defeated Davidson in a reverse sweep five set match Saturday afternoon.

This is the first reverse sweep for the Bengals since Oct. 28, 2017 when the Bengals reverse swept Weber State.

"I loved how gritty my team was tonight," said Head Coach Sammi Stuart. " In sets two through five our

setter ran a simple offense that allowed for our offense to get going. We grinded it out!"

The Bengals got behind early in the match giving up leads in both sets one and two to allow the wildcats to take a quick 2-0 lead.

 After not having a hitting percentage higher than .150 in both the first and second sets, the Bengals turned into high gear and didn't allow their hitting to fall below . 207 for the reminder of the match.

The Bengals hit a match high .405 in the fourth set as they won 25-20 and forced a decisive fifth set.

15 points wasn't enough to determine a winner and the Bengals fought to 17 points to secure the victory.

Jamie Streit had a huge match for the Bengals. Recording her second double-double of the day in a dominant 23 kill 16 dig .385 hitting percentage performance.

Reagan Kunz and Sadie Bluth also contributed double-digit kills with 14 and 11 kills respectively.

The Bengals won the battle at the net 14-13 with Dani Devlin leading the team with 8 blocks, a new career high.

In a true team defensive effort, five Bengals had digs in the double-digits.
