POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State soccer dropped a close match against the University of Idaho 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Davis Field.
The Bengals and Vandals battled back and forth for 80 minutes in an intense physical match.
The Vandals appeared to score a goal around 20 minutes into the match before the referee disallowed it and the teams headed into the half 0-0.
The Bengal defense continued to battle in the second half as the Vandals pressed their attack.
79 minutes in the match, the Vandals were able to get a cross into the Bengal box and the Vandals completed a header into the back of the net.
The Bengals tried to counter in the remaining 10 minutes but came just short and the Vandals left with the 1-0 win.
Kylee Atkins in goal for the Bengals had six saves facing 12 Vandal shots.
The Bengals out shot the Vandals 18-12. Deborah Pond had five shots with two on goal. Gabby Warta and Karlin Wurlitzer recorded four shots each.
The Bengals head on the road for a three-game trip this next week starting with Weber State University on Oct. 3
