POCATELLO, Idaho- Thanks to the commitment of the Portneuf Medical Center, the Idaho State Athletics Department unveiled its new athletic training room in the sports medicine building on the campus of Idaho State University.
"Portneuf is deeply partnered with ISU in very key areas that enhance the delivery of healthcare in southeast Idaho," said Jordan Herget, CEO at Portneuf Medical Center. "This investment in the newly remodeled Athletic Training Center and our significant annual investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to ISU athletics and to the growth and development of programs that prepare students to function as health care providers. As a teaching hospital and as a leader in health care in the region, this sponsorship fits well with PMC's mission. The Future for Portneuf Medical Center, Idaho State University and the Cities of Pocatello and Chubbuck is bright! Go Bengals!"
This new space allows the training room to expand its ability to care for a greater number of student-athletes.
"The ISU athletic training program trains students in injury prevention, recognition, treatment, and rehabilitation and is specifically designed to prepare students for a career in allied health care as a certified athletic trainer," said Herget. "Six of our nine Portneuf Sports Medicine Institute athletic trainers are ISU alums. We honor and recognize the great partner we have in ISU."
PMC's generous donation allowed the Bengal sports medicine staff to expand its treatment tables from four to eight and provide student-athletes more room for treatment and rehabilitation.
"The use of this space through a sponsorship from PMC made a great transformation possible," Idaho State Director of Athletics
Pauline Thiros said. "Throughout the history of ISU athletics we have needed to expand the space available to athletic training so that we could deliver the best care possible, the care our student athletes deserve. The extra room affords us the ability to install and utilize the latest athletic treatment modalities, and allows a larger number of students to be served in a shorter time frame. It alleviates so many challenges, and positively impacts the health and well-being of our students, and there is absolutely nothing more important than that. We are grateful to PMC for allowing us to utilize the space, and grateful to Champions Fund Donors who contributed $65,000 to equipment to help treat our Bengals."
Portneuf Medical Center has provided the space for the facility, along with annual funding for tenant improvements, through a sponsorship agreement with Learfield and ISU Athletics. In order to outfit the space with the latest technology and athletic training room equipment, Bengal Athletics called upon the Champions Fund, supported by donors who wish to provide for areas of greatest need in the department as a whole. Nearly $65,000 in donations covered taping and treatment tables, as well as treatment technologies.
