POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Bengal soccer team fell to the Montana Grizzlies in a hard-fought 2-1 battle.
The Bengals continue to make progress on the season, After going six matches without a goal, the Bengals have now scored in four-straight matches.
The Griz broke the stalemate early in the first half, scoring 12 minutes into the match. After the early goal, the two defenses took over the match, battling back and forth for the succeeding sixty minutes.
With the Bengals pressing in the second half, the Griz were able to get on the board again with a ball that ricocheted off the top of the bar into the net.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Bengals didn't stop pressing the attack and it came to a head in the 85th minute.
Driving up the pitch, Karlin Wurlitzer passed the ball deep in to Griz territory, speeding up on the ball, Jordyn Roth beat out the Montana defender just on the line and crossed the ball into the box. Kaylyn Buchanan was ready and waiting heading the ball high over the reach of the Montana Keeper to score for the Bengals cutting the UM lead to 2-1.
ISU continued to press in the final minutes, getting off more shots, but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 2-1 to Montana.
The Bengals ended the match with nine shots, five on goal. Kelsey Jargstorf finished the match with six saves in goal.
The Bengals are back home Sunday afternoon for the final match of the 2022 season, Senior Day as we honor our four departing 2022 seniors. The ceremony will take place right after the conclusion of the match.
