POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's basketball team fell just short in their comeback attempt against the Lindenburg Lions, falling 77-76 in overtime.
The Bengals fall to 1-4 on the season with three losses being decided by four points or less.
The first half got off to a rocky start for the Orange and Black. After going up 15-7 over the Lions, Lindenwood stormed back, taking an 18-17 lead with 8:36 to play in the first.
Idaho State struggled for the remainder of the period, going scoreless and heading into the locker room down 32-17.
Coach Looney's pep talk in the locker room worked though because the Bengals came into the second half reinvigorated and ready to take on their foe.
Over the first 14 minutes of the 2nd half, Idaho State outscored the Lions 44-29 led by Daxton Carr's nine points, and eight points each by Jared Rodriguez and AJ Burgin.
Jared Rodriguez gave the Bengals a two-point lead in the last minute of regulation, but the Lions were able to tie the game.
Lindenwood had a chance to win the game in regulation, but the Bengal defense stepped up, forcing the missed jump shot and sending the game to overtime.
Idaho State held the lead for the entire overtime period, but on their last possession of the game, the Lions hit a pull-up jump shot to win the contest 77-76.
Notes
· Jared Rodriguez led the Bengals in scoring with 19 points on seven-of-14 shooting from the floor. AJ Burgin, Daxton Carr and Jay Nagle also scored in double-digits.
· The Bengals hit 12 three-pointers in the contest, but also took a season-high 38 attempts
· The Bengal defense forced 20 turnovers out of Lindenwood and took advantage, scoring 27 points off of them.
· ISU played clean on defense, only committing 10 fouls, while the Lions committed 22.
