Cougars Rally Past ISU

 

PROVO, Utah- The BYU men's basketball team rallied past Idaho State 60-56 on Monday night at the Marriott Center in front of a crowd over 13,000 fans.

The Bengals led for nearly the entire second half before the Cougars outscored ISU 7-1 in the final minute to earn the victory. The game was tied at 55 with 26 seconds left in the game. BYU then hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in the game to take a 58-56 lead and sealed the victory with two free throws with one second left.

Brock Mackenzie led the Bengals in scoring with 14 points while Maleek Arington had 11 points and Miguel Tomley had 10.

Austin Smellie led Idaho State on the boards with six. 

ISU shot 38 percent from the field and held BYU to 37 percent shooting. The Bengals turned the ball over 22 times and forced 23 BYU turnovers.

Neither team led by more than 10 points. BYU's biggest lead was 9-0 in the first four minutes of the game. ISU led by as many as eight points.

Idaho State trailed 27-22 at halftime.  Idaho State then out scored BYU 10-5 to tie the game at 32 after a basket by Tomley with 16:37 left in the game.

Idaho State's biggest lead of the game was 45-37 after a basket by Parker with 10:52 remaining in the contest. While the Cougars got within one point several times BYU never took the lead until the final seconds of the game.

Idaho State returns home to host Westcliff on Thursday at 7 p.m.
