POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball hits the road this week as they head to Santa Barbara, Calif. To take on the 2022 Gaucho Classic hosted by UC Santa Barbara on the Campus Diamond. The Bengals will play five games over the course of Thursday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, Feb. 26.

Bengal Bites
In the Bengals 11-0 win over Abilene Christian on 2/11, pitcher Emma McMurray recorded her first career shutout and the Bengals had their first mercy-rule win since 2018.
both Piper Tago and Isabella Hanson recorded their first NCAA Career home runs during the UTEP Invitational 2/10-12.
Against Cal State Fullerton on 2/19, Angelica Cano recorded the first walk-off of the season, a solo home run over center with two outs and two strikes.
Rheanne Lewis is ranked No. 2 in the Big Sky with a .444 batting average this season and is tied for No. 1 with Cano with 11 runs scored each so far.
Lewis is also tied for 1st in hits with 16 on the season.
freshman pitcher Haley Rainey is ranked 2nd in the Big Sky in strikeouts with 35 on the season.
Quick Scout and series History – UCSB
The Bengals and Gauchos have only played twice before an have split the series 1-1. Their last meeting, in 2020, the Bengals came away with a 4-3 victory.
UCSB is 2-8 on the season with wins against North Dakota State and Utah State. They have played a serious non-conference schedule though, with losses to Oklahoma, Arizona and Kentucky.
The Gauchos are only hitting .211 on the season as a team, but once again, the level of competition they have faced might now show their team potential.
UCSB's no. 1 pitcher #8 Camryn Snyder is throwing a 6.77 ERA with sixteen strike outs and 37 runs allowed on 45 hits.
Quick Scout and series History – Providence
The Providence Friars have only played one tournament so far this year, going 4-1 with wins against Morgan State, Umass-Lowell and Elon.
This will be the first meeting of the two programs.
#21 Lyndsey Evix and #9 Mariead O'Sullivan lead the friars both hitting .667 after that first tournament.
#4 Rachael Petrarca has already hit three home runs for Providence this season.
In the circle, the Friars are led by #24 Daniela Alvarez who has a 0.54 ERA with only six hits and seven runs allowed in two wins. #8 Tori Grifone also has a 2-0 record with 24 strikeouts in two games and 14 hits allowed.

The Bengals and the Broncos are set to meet for the 25th time in Idaho State program history. The Broncos currently lead the series 19-5. This will be the first meeting of Head Coach Andrew Rich and Assistant Coach Rebekah Cervantes with their previous program.
The Broncos are on a hot start this season at 9-1 with wins over Middle Tennessee and Stanford. The Broncos ended their two previous games on 'mercy-rule' wins over UIW and UMass.
BSU is led offensively by #11 Alycia Flores who is hitting .514 in 10 games played. In 35 at bats she has scored 12 runs on 18 hits with three doubles and two home runs. The Broncos are led in .SLG by #22 Kelsey Lalor with a percentage of .810.
Six broncos have already hit two or more homeruns this season with #27 Bella Rocco leading the team with three.
#24 Taylor Caudill leads the Broncos in the circle with a 4-0 record and a 0.62 ERA. Caudill has only given up two runs and 15 hits with 38 strikeouts in five appearances.
