Bengals Shut Out Seton Hall Day Two of Libby Matson Tournament

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball went 1-1 on the second day of the Libby Matson Tournament.

Idaho State started the day with a five inning 8-0 win over Seton Hall then dropped game two against pacific 2-1.

Game One | ISU 8 – Seton Hall 0

Idaho State defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 8-0 in five innings Saturday at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif.

The Bengals started early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st off of a Frankie Tago single.

Haley Rainey continued to show her strength in the circle holding the Pirates scoreless. The Bengal defense also stepped up turning two double-plays in the first four innings.

In the fourth, after Brook Richards, Amber Arreola and Kaylee Butterworth reached, Rheanne Lewis doubled through the let side scoring two more runs.

With two outs, Angelica Cano stepped up and hit three-run home run giving the Bengals a 7-0 lead headed into the fifth.

With one more inning to go, Skyler Sethman was walked. After advancing to third, Morgan Hess came in as a pinch hitter and walked off the Bengals with a single on the left side scoring Sethman and ending the game in five, 8-0.

In five innings, Rainey struck out five batters and only allowed three hits on 19 batters faced.

This was the fifth time this season already that the Bengals recorded 10 or more hits in a game.

Game Two | ISU 1 – Pacific 2

Idaho State dropped its contest with Pacific 2-1 Saturday Evening in Stockton.

After taking a 1-0 lead early in the first, the Bengals held the lead until the third when the Tigers tied it up. Both teams went back and forth defensively over the fourth and fifth, before the Tigers were able to break the tie in the bottom of the sixth.

Pacific was able to hold onto the lead and come away with the 2-1 victory.

In the circle, Mareena Ramirez allowed five hits and two runs with four strikeouts.

Rheanne Lewis and Morgan Hess led the Bengals with two hits each on three at bats.

 

Looking Ahead

The Bengals conclude the 2022 Libby Matson tomorrow morning as they take on the Nevada Wolfpack at 10 AM.
