POCATELLO, Idaho – After fighting through a season with weather and Covid-19 postponements and cancelations, the Idaho State softball team has fought back to earn its first postseason berth since 2019.
The Bengals head to Ogden this week for the 2022 Big Sky Conference softball championships Wednesday May 11 through the 13th.
The No.5 seed Bengals open the tournament with a rematch of the No. 4 seed Northern Colorado Bears Wednesday May 11 at 9:30 AM.

Bengal Bites
· For the 3rd time in the modern era of the program, the Bengals finished the pre-conference schedule with a winning record (16-14). ISU previously did this in 2014 and 2015
· On 3/29 Haley Rainey was named the Big Sky Pitcher of the week for the second time this season.
· On March 18 in the Bengal's win over Maine, Idaho State hit 6 doubles. This ties the team single game record for doubles hit.
· In the Bengals 11-0 win over Abilene Christian on 2/11, pitcher Emma McMurray recorded her first career shutout and the Bengals had their first mercy-rule win since 2018.
· both Piper Tago and Isabella Hanson recorded their first NCAA Career home runs during the UTEP Invitational 2/10-12.
· Against Cal State Fullerton on 2/19, Angelica Cano recorded the first walk-off of the season, a solo home run over center with two outs and two strikes.
· The Bengals defeated Boise State 4-3 on 2/25. The Idaho State victory was the first against the Broncos since the 2016 season. Haley Rainey led the Bengals holding the Broncos to just three hits and 8 strikeouts.
· Rainey Threw her first career shutout against Nevada on Mar. 4. She followed it up with an 8-0 shutout win over Seton Hall.
· The Bengals finish the regular season ranked tied for 2 in batting in the conference hitting .291. ISU has hit the 2nd most hits with 389 on the season. The Bengals lead in doubles with 65 on the year.
· The Bengal pitching staff finish the season ranked 4th in the Big Sky with a 4.42 ERA. The Bengals pitched four shutouts
· Frankie Tago ranks sixth in the conference with a .356 BA
· Rheanne Lewis and Angelica Cano are tied for 1st in the Big Sky in runs scored with 47 each.
· Lewis leads the conference in hits with 65 this season, nine more than the second (Riley Plogger, UNC, 56). Lewis is also tied for 1st in Triples hit this season with 3
· Cano leads the conference in RBIS and Doubles with 48 RBIS and 13 doubles this season.
· Lewis has been on a tear this season on the base paths, she leads the conference in stolen bases with 23 and has only been thrown out once this season.
