Bengals Go Toe to Toe with Boise State Before Falling 3-1


 


POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State volleyball went toe to toe with the Boise State Broncos Monday afternoon in Reed Gym. The Bengals fought hard every serve before falling 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 25-23, 26-24).

Every set in the match went to 20+ points and the Bengals never gave up in the match.

The match opened with the Broncos taking a 20-15 lead before the Bengals came roaring back pulling to within 21-18 before BSU closed out the set.

Set two had an exciting finish, with a rocking crow of Bengal faithful and ISU Students, the Bengals took a 24-20 lead into set point. The Broncos weren't done though, crawling back to tie the match. The Bengals didn't stop fighting, capitalizing on a BSU error and Emrie Satuala kill to finish out the set with the 26-24 Bengal win.

Sets three and four were ultra-competitive, back and forth affairs with the two teams. The Bengals were able to pull away multiple times in both sets gaining leads as large as six points, but the reigning Mountain West Broncos showed their depth and maturity, crawling back  to with the sets.

Both sets three and four went above 23 points scored for each team and the Broncos only won the match by a hair's breadth.

Bengal Bites

·        The Bengals ended with the higher hitting percentage, finishing at .253 percent and 57 kills.

·        ISU's 57 kills were a season-high for the team.

·        Sadie Bluth ended the match with a season-high .395 hitting percentage with 19 kills and 4 errors.

·        Jamie Streit picked up another double-double on the season with 17 kills and 12 digs hitting .204

·        Boise State finished the match with more errors than the Bengals (26-20)

·        The two teams were evenly matched from the service line with three aces each.

·        Though the Broncos had more height than the Bengals, ISU got up at the net connecting on eight blocks in the match to BSU's nine.

·        Andri Dewey hit a new season-high in assists with 44 in the match.
