Week 2 Preview: Idaho State at San Diego State

POCATELLO, Idaho-
  After a bye week in week 1, Idaho State returns to the field for its second straight Mountain West Conference opponent in San Diego State. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. (MST) at Snap Dragon Stadium. Jerry Miller and Kody Graves will call the action on KISU with the pregame show beginning at 5:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.

Scouting San Diego State 
San Diego State is 0-1 after losing 38-20 to Arizona in the first game in Snap Dragon Stadium. SDSU trailed 24-10 at halftime and 31-10 early in the third quarter before getting 10 points late in the second half. Arizona tallied 461 total yards while the Aztecs finished with 232, only 60 coming through the air. Quarterbacks Braxton Burmeister and Will Haskell combined to complete seven passes on 16 attempts. Defensively Michael Shawcroft led the team with nine tackles while Noah Avinger and Patrick McMorris each had eight. 

Bengals Against FBS
Since 2008 Idaho State has played two FBS schools each year. During this stretch the Bengals have played BYU four times, Utah State three times, Utah, Boise State and Nevada twice and UNLV once. The Bengals have also played the following Power 5 schools; Cal,  Colorado, Oregon State, Washington, Nebraska, Washington State, Georgia, Arizona State and Oklahoma. 

Prior to Idaho State's 30-28 win at Nevada in 2017, ISU was 0-27 against FBS schools since beating Utah State 27-24 in 2000. Since the win over Nevada, ISU is 0-8 against FBS schools. 

UNLV Review
- Spencer Tatafu 2 sacks was the most by a Bengal in a game since Luke Holloway had two at SUU in 2019. 
- Idaho State had 5 sacks against UNLV. They had seven for the 2021 season. 
- Game Captains were Tyler Vander Waal, Terron Carey, Charles Ike, Cortland Hortland
- Hunter Hays rushing touchdown was the first of his career.
- DJ Hagler had a career-high 8 tackles.
- Calvin Pitcher tied his career-high in tackles with seven.
- Freshman kicker Ian Hershey scored his first points as a Bengal with three extra points. He handled all kicking duties as he punted seven times for an averaged 46.7 yards and a long of 65.
