POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State Bengals men's basketball team will be back in Reed Gym for the first time of the 2023-24 season, hosting the Northwest University Eagles on Thursday, November 16th at 7 p.m. This will be the second ever meeting between Idaho State and Northwest University, Idaho State defeating the Eagles in the 2020-21 season 89-48 in Pocatello.

St. Thomas fell to Cal in their season opener on Monday, November 6th 71-66 in Berkley, CA, giving the Golden Bears a fight till the very end. #4 Andrew Brooks led the way for the Tommies, scoring 17 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.

The Bengals would strike first, thanks to Miguel Tomley 3-pointer, but would fail to see the lead after that, giving up a 21-2 run to fall behind 21-5 just seven minutes into the game. The Bengals and Tommies would each get into a groove after this, but thanks to a two-point jump shot with just four seconds remaining in the first half the Cyclones would take a 44-25 lead into the break over the Bengals.

The second half panned out to be similar to the first. The Bengals withstood the Cyclones the best they could, but Iowa State overpowered the Bengals, as the final score in this contest was 86-55. This is the second loss of the year for the Bengals, falling to 1-2 this season. With the win Iowa State improves to 3-0 on the year.

Maleek Arington was the Bengals' leading scorer tonight as he put up a career-high 15 points going 4-of-10 from the field and 2-of-5 from deep. Arington also tacked on four rebounds and two assists. Miguel Tomley was the other Bengal in double-digits today, totaling 11 points on 3-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc while also finishing with 2 assists and one steal. Big man, Brayden Parker, finished the game with 6 points, 6 rebounds, and one assist. Kolton Mitchell and Trent Johnson both contributed off the bench for Idaho State. Mitchell finished with 9 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal in 20 minutes and Johnson tallied 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in 29 minutes.

The Bengals finished the game shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep finishing 8-of-19 from three-point territory. The Bengals tallied 11 assists, 30 rebounds, and 6 steals.

Iowa State finished the game shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Cyclones led the Bengals in rebounds and assists tonight, as they finished with 15 assists and 37 boards.
