MALIBU, California - The Idaho State men's basketball team traveled Malibu, California early this week for their matchup with the Pepperdine University Waves Tuesday night.
The Bengals would gain momentum early, going on a 6-0 run in the first 3:30 of the game, followed by a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead at the 11:31 mark in the first half. However, for every time the Bengals would try and pull ahead the Waves had an answer, going on their own 22-2 run, which would prove to be the difference maker in the game. Pepperdine would end the final 8:58 of the first half on a 26-9 run and take a 37-26 lead into the break.
In the second half the Waves would storm out on a 23-9 run in the first 8 minutes, extending their lead to the largest of the game at 25 points, 60-35. The Bengals did not go down without a fight, as they responded with an 8-2 run over the next 1:30, but the Bengals would not be able to handle the Waves at the end of the day, falling 77-62. The Bengals, fall to 3-4 on the season after the loss and with the win Pepperdine will improve to 4-5.
Miguel Tomley was the leading scorer for the Bengals tonight, putting up 14 points on 6-of-14 from the field and 2-of-7 from deep. Tomley also tacked on two assists and one rebound. Brayden Parker and Kiree Huie were the other two Bengals to finish in double-digits. Parker totaled 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. Huie finished 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 1 block. Maleek Arington put up 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist, and Kolton Mitchell continued to be a big presence for ISU off the bench as he scored 7 points, snared down 3 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and grabbed 1 steal in 21 minutes. The Bengals finished the game shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from deep finishing 5-of-17 from three-point territory. The Bengals tallied 8 assists, 28 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Pepperdine finished the game shooting 53.2 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Waves finished the game with 29 rebounds, 10 steals and 21 assists on their 33 made baskets.
