Minneapolis, Minn. – The Idaho State Bengals wrapped up day two of the Gopher Classic in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Game one of the day saw the Bengals take on the Central Michigan Chippewas and it ended in exciting fashion.
The game started with neither team able to get an edge for the first two innings. Jordan Schuring battled in the circle striking out two batters in the first two innings, but the Bengal offense was unable to get on the board.
In the top of the third, the Chippewas put up back-to-back home runs taking a 2-0 lead in what had been a pitchers duel.
Headed into the bottom of the 3rd with a deficit, the Bengals got to work. Skyler Sethman opened the inning with a lead-off double to left. Up stepped Ava Brown and followed it with an extra-base hit RBI scoring Sethman and cutting the lead to one.
Keeping it up, Angelica Cano singled, then stole 2nd. Alyssa Yee then tied the game with the third double of the inning. After 3, the game was tied 2-2.
In the 4th, CMU scored two more runs and headed to the bottom of the inning, the Bengals stepped up once again. After Kate Hogan drew a walk, Sethman hit her second double of the game, scoring Hogan and cutting the CMU lead to one.
Like she did the previous inning, Yee stepped up to the plate and tied the game with a single RBI up the middle.
After CMU was able to score another run in the sixth, the Bengal defense held the Chippewas and going into the bottom of the 7th, ISU had one more chance to step up.
Yee started the Orange and Black off with an infield single. Olivia Robison stepped up and smashed and absolute bomb of a triple down the right field line scoring Yee and tying the game with a runner on third.
Coming in to pinch hit, Madison Muxen slapped the 2nd pitch she saw to the outfield and walked-off the comeback victory for the Bengals.
Jordan Schuring earned the win with a complete game performance in the circle. Over seven innings, Schuring allowed five runs and two strikeouts facing 32 batters.
Game two vs the University of Minnesota, the game went all the way of the Gophers.
The Minnesota pitcher was throwing a perfect game, until in the 5th, Kaylee Butterworth connected with the ball for a single.
The game ended in the sixth with a 9-0 win over the Bengals.
